What is a GeoPDF Map: 

1. Geographic Referenced PDF (GeoPDF) maps have been developed to give hunters, trappers, anglers, and non-hunting/fishing recreationalists the ability to view their location and more, on their personal device (smartphone) using one of many PDF Map Apps. This will help users navigate as well as identify where they are within the installation.

2. The GeoPDF maps must be used in conjunction with the OPEN AREAS posting. It is the user’s responsibility to check the OPEN AREAS and not enter any closed training areas.

• Geographic Referenced PDF (GeoPDF) maps have been developed to give hunters, trappers, anglers, and non-hunting/fishing recreationalists the ability to view their location and more, on their personal device (smartphone) using one of many PDF Map Apps. 

• This will help users navigate as well as identify where they are within the installation. The GeoPDF maps must be used in conjunction with the Game Line posting. It is the user’s responsibility to check the Game Line and not enter any closed training areas. 

• There are more than one “PDF Map Apps” available for iOS and Android users (e.g., ArcGIS Field Maps (free, no account), FO Maps: GeoPDF GPS Offline (free, no account), Avenza Maps (account and subscription), Paper Map (account and subscription), etc.). These apps are used to read a GeoPDF map and display the user’s location. 

• The GeoPDF maps associated with Fort McCoy Regulation 420-29 are available for download on the Fort McCoy iSportsman website under Regulations (additional information is listed below). 

o Maps not specifically identified as GeoPDF can be downloaded and partially displayed on a smartphone, but will only display half of the installation. These maps are saved in a format that show the entire installation on two pages (North and South Post) to produce a better map when printed. 

o The GeoPDF maps are one page maps covering the entire installation and will display the complete installation when used with a “PDF Map App”. 

• There are multiple GeoPDF Maps available on the Fort McCoy iSportsman website, make sure to select the correct map that corresponds to the activity you will be participating in (e.g., Gun-Deer, Small Game Archery Turkey, Fishing, Trapping, Non-Hunting/Fishing, and Cantonment Archery).

• It is recommended to have the mobile device connected to the internet while downloading the application of your choice and map.

• Directions to download and import the Fort McCoy GeoPDF maps are listed below. These are generalized and may vary depending on the app that is being used. Users should reference their specific app instructions for more detailed directions.

• It is recommended to become familiar with the app and its functions before relying completely on the app.

After you have followed either of the processes on the next page, you can disconnect from the internet or leave cell service coverage, and the “PDF Map App” will still work just like most GPS Apps - by displaying your location on the GeoPDF map once you enter the boundaries of the map.

 

How to load GeoPDF’s in ArcGIS Field Maps, FO Maps, etc.:

Download and install your choice of “PDF Map App” (ArcGIS Field Maps, FO Maps, etc.) from the Google Play or App Store.

• In a web browser (i.e. Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.) visit the Fort McCoy iSportsman website at https://mccoy.isportsman.net.

o Click on the “Regulations” tab on the top of the page.

o Click on “Regulations and Maps” on the dropdown menu.

o Locate the section heading “Fort McCoy GeoPDF Maps” and select the appropriate map for your activity (e.g., Fishing, Trapping, Gun-Deer, Small Game Archery Turkey, Cantonment Archery, or Non-Hunting/Fishing Activities).  

• Open the GeoPDF in your device’s browser.

• Use the share menu (  Apple, or for Android) : Share/Send to > Field Maps/FO Maps/similar app.

• The GeoPDF will appear in the application. 

How to load GeoPDFs in Avenza, Paper Map, etc.:

Android/Apple iOS

• Download and install your choice of “PDF Map App” from the Google Play Store.

• In a web browser (i.e., Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Internet Explorer, etc.), visit the Fort McCoy iSportsman website at https://mccoy.isportsman.net.

o Click on the “Regulations” tab on the top of the page.

o Click on “Regulations and Maps” on the dropdown menu.

o Locate the section heading “Fort McCoy GeoPDF Maps” and select the appropriate map for your activity (e.g., Fishing, Trapping, Gun-Deer, Small Game Archery Turkey, Cantonment Archery, or Non-Hunting/Fishing Activities).  The map that was selected will be saved to your “Download” file.

• Once the GeoPDF map has been selected and is displayed or has been downloaded:

o Open the “PDF Map App”

o Tap the “+” add button 

o Tap “download or import a map”

o Tap “From Device Storage”

o Navigate to the recently downloaded map within your “Download” folder and select.

o The map will then display in your “PDF Map App”.
