FORT McCOY PERMITS & PERMIT APPLICATION INFORMATION
The appropriate Fort McCoy iSportsman annual access pass, hunting, fishing, trapping, non-hunting/fishing activity permit, and appropriate State of Wisconsin license and stamps are required to hunt, fish, or trap on Fort McCoy. Fort McCoy permits must be purchased through your established iSportsman account using this iSportsman system. Be sure to review all Fort McCoy rules and regulations prior to recreating.
PURCHASING A FORT MCCOY PERMIT
Fort McCoy hunting, fishing, trapping, firewood cutting permits, and annual access passes, are available through this Fort McCoy iSportsman website once you have established a user account. The iSportsman Annual Access Pass is free when you login to your iSportsman account and has to be renewed annually. A debit card or credit card is required for online permit purchases. Permits may also be purchased at the Permit Sales Office (PSO). The PSO can accept cash, debit cards or credit cards for permit purchases. Checks or money orders are NOT accepted. The Fort McCoy Natural Resources Permit Sales Office, 2168 South 8th Avenue, is open Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The appropriate State of Wisconsin licenses, permits, and stamps can be purchased through the WDNR GoWild online system or at any authorized WDNR GoWild vendor throughout Wisconsin.

FORT MCCOY PERMITS
Non-quota Season Permits: Non-quota hunt permits may be purchased directly through your established Fort McCoy iSportsman account. Permits are located under Acquire Permits once logged into your account. A Fort McCoy application is not required to purchase non-quota permits. You must login into your iSportsman account in order to purchase a Fort McCoy permit.

The Fort McCoy Small Game, Fall Turkey, and Regular Archery Permits are available for purchase in iSportsman starting in August.
Quota Season Permits: Quota hunt permits are only available through the Fort McCoy online electronic application and drawing process (submit your free permit application directly through your iSportsman account). Fort McCoy offers a limited number of permits for:
- Nine-Day Gun Deer
- Gun Hunt For Hunters with Disabilities
- Youth Gun Deer
- Cantonment Archery (Access restrictions and special rules apply)
There is no cost to apply. Submit your electronic permit application through your iSportsman account to be entered in to the online drawing for a permit. Applications become available in May with a deadline date of July 31st.
- Quota permit applications are only available through your Fort McCoy iSportsman account by logging in to your account and clicking on Acquire Permits.
- Select the permit application you would like to submit into the drawing by clicking Add to Cart.
- Read through acknowledgement and select I Agree.
- Select from the drop down menu how you are entering (Create a Group, Join a Group, Solo Entry).
- Select SAVE. By selecting SAVE, you permit application will be saved to your shopping cart.
- Go to View Cart & Checkout
- Verify your items in your shopping cart and select Checkout.
- Be sure to Confirm your Checkout order even if your total is $0.00. Once you confirm your order, your permit application is submitted into the online drawing. You will receive an email confirmation.
Permit selection is conducted through a random online drawing following one week after the application deadline date. All applicants are notified of the selection results through the iSportsman system and can check the status of their application through their iSportsman account under the Lottery tab. Individuals approved for a quota permit(s) are provided instructions on how/when to purchase their permit(s). Your awarded Fort McCoy permit may only be purchased through your Fort McCoy iSportsman account.
- How to create & submit a Group Permit Application: Group Permit Applications will be accepted (4 applications per group). When you Create a group application, a ‘Group Key’ will be given to the first person applying who selected create a group. The first person applying for the group will need to select 'Create Group' when asked how they want to apply. At the end of the application process (after Checking-out and Confirming your order), the iSportsman system will generate a group key code which then you can share with those who you would like to join your group. Others who join your group need to select "Join exisitng group" when asked how they want to apply and need to enter the group key code exactly in the text box, check-out and confirm order.
PERMIT DRAWINGS AND CATAGORY STATUS
Permit selections will be based on a random drawing of all online applications within four category placements (A, A-1, B or C) with separate permit allotments established for each category. If you are a Category A, A-1, or B and are entering an application for a permit, and you do not have a Category Validation or have an expired Category Validation in your iSportsman account, you will need to submit proof to the Permit Sales Office. See below for details.
- Category A: Active and Retired Military, Reserves and National Guard and military dependent ID card holders. Proof of ID required for Category A validation. Applicants can stop by the Permit Sales Office (building 2168) with their ID or SF 50, or a copy can be sent to the Permit Sales Office. If sending a copy of your ID or SF50, any social security number displayed must be BLOCKED OUT. Note: The Fort McCoy Personnel Services Branch can issue ID cards for retired civilian personnel. Please call (608) 388-4563 prior to visiting for more information.
- Category A-1: Military Veteran. A military veteran is any person who served for any length of time in any military service branch. A veteran is a former member of the Armed Forces of the United States (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard) who served on active duty/reserve and was discharged under conditions, which were other than dishonorable. A copy of a veterans DD Form 214/215 NGB 22/22A is required for all Category A-1 applicants to confirm the status. Category A-1 status only applies to veteran and does not include spouse or dependents.
- Category B: Department of Defense (DoD) and Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) civilians, retired government civilians, other US Government Civilian ID Card Holders, and legal dependents (spouses and children 18 years old and younger). A Civilian/Retired Civilian government employee ID is required for all Category B applicants to confirm the status. Retired government civilian employees may supply a copy of their retirement SF50 or a retired civilian ID card. For legal dependents, the parent/guardian government employee must provide their ID along with the names of dependents. Applicants can stop by the Permit Sales Office (Building 2168) with their ID or SF 50, or a copy can be sent to the Permit Sales Office. - Category C: General Public (those who do not qualify for Category A, A-1, or B). No copy of ID required. You do not have to validate your status with the Permit Sales Office.
** If applying as a group with different category 'Status', the application is included in the lower tier drawing (Example: A group with a Category A and a Category C applicant would be included in the Category C drawing).
VALIDATING YOUR CATEGORY STATUS (A, A-1, B, and C)
- When applying for quota hunt permits: Individuals who indicate they are Category A (Active and Retired Military, Reserves and National Guard and military dependent ID card holders.), Category A-1 (Veteran), or Category B (Department of Defense (DoD) and Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) civilians, retired government civilians, other US Government Civilian ID Card Holders, and legal dependents (spouses and children 18 years old and younger) in their account must provide credentials to verify their Category status for the permit lottery drawings. If your current validation in your iSportsman account has not expired at the time of your application, you do not need to resubmit a copy of your credentials.
- Copies of ID can be mailed, emailed, or dropped off at the Permit Sales Office. Any social security number displayed on the copy of your ID must be BLOCKED OUT.

QUOTA HUNT PERMIT DRAWING SELECTION PROCESS
Permit selections will be based on a random drawing of all online applications within four user category placements (A, A-1 B or C) with separate permit allotments established for each category (see Category definition on application information sheet).
- Category A applicants will be drawn first followed by Category A-1, B, and then Category C. Any Category A, A-1, or B applicants not selected in the initial drawing will be included in the Category C drawing.
- Any Category A, A-1, or B allotments not filled during the selection process will be available for the Category C drawing.
- Any permits remaining after the initial drawing will be awarded first come first served.
- Online applications must be submitted by the application deadline date. No exceptions.
Any accounts that are not validated by time of the drawing will be considered Category C (General Public).
PERMIT DRAWING RESULTS:
Drawings will be conducted one week after application deadline. Drawing results will be awarded to your iSportsman account. Individuals who supplied and email address in their iSportsman account will receive an email notification of their drawing results. Or you may login into your iSportsman account and click on the Lottery tab to see your drawing results at any time.
WISCONSIN ARMED FORCES HUNTING PRIVILEGES
Wisconsin law extends many privileges for hunting, fishing and trapping to active members of the U.S. Armed Forces, Wisconsin National Guard or Reserves for both residents and nonresidents. Different sections of Wisconsin statutes authorize these privileges, each with their own qualifications.

- Residents
- Any resident in active service with the Armed Forces, who presents their military I.D. and leave papers is eligible for a free Small Game & Fishing License. All other hunting, trapping or fishing licenses can be purchased at resident rates.
- Active service, means full time employment as a member of the armed services and does not include annual summer training by members of the national guard or reserves.
- Any resident Purple Heart recipient who exhibits proof at a DNR Service Center of having received a Purple Heart medal is eligible to purchase a Conservation Patron license for $10. More details including acceptable documentation available on Veteran's page.
- Nonresidents: A hunting, fishing and trapping license can be purchased at the resident rate by a nonresident who is:
- A member of the Wisconsin National Guard an active member of the Armed Forces stationed in Wisconsin a member of a Reserve Unit of the Armed Forces located in Wisconsin a current member of the Armed Forces or current member of a Reserve Unit of the Armed Forces stationed out of state who was a resident at the time he or she entered active service
- Any nonresident Purple Heart recipient who exhibits proof at a DNR Service Center of having received a Purple Heart medal is eligible to purchase a nonresident Conservation Patron license for $161 and other hunting, trapping, and fishing approvals at resident rates.
